Broadway United Methodist Students (BUMS)

BUMS Sunday Nights, starting back on August 22, will be covering the topic of FRIENDS! Friends
influence every part of our lives - how we act, what we wear,
what we say, and most importantly what we believe. This video
driven Bible study series will cover LONLINESS, PEER PRESSURE, COMPARISONS AND IDENTITY.
Welcome to the Broadway United Methodist Student Website!!!
What Are YOU Looking For?
Are you even looking? If you were, what is it that you would be looking for? It is our prayer that you will find love, guidance, and acceptance here in the BUMS ministry. Life is too short and too busy for your time to be wasted. So, if you are looking, even if you are not sure what it is that you are looking for, come check us out...some times and places to do so are listed below along with a little bit of who we are...
BUMS Creed

It's TIME for a change. I will no longer be GRIPPED by the world's warped mindset. I have been TRANSFORMED by Jesus Christ and my thoughts and actions are subject to a HIGHER STANDARD. I can't change the past but I CAN make a difference TODAY. In God's power I will Be a REVOLUTION. Rom 12:1&2, 2 Cor 5:17.
Our Vision
Learning to focus on Jesus during all circumstances...the good, the bad and the ugly....and being obedient to the call of Christ where we practice loving the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul and all our strength AND try our best to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Food for Our Soul
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Community Outreach
Breaking out of the church walls, community outeach can take a variety of forms. From visiting nursing homes, assisted livings and shut-ins, to volunteering at Paducah Cooperative Ministries, we like to serve. Want to join the fun? Know of a need our youth can help with? Talk with Rebecca today!
It does not, therefore, depend upon a person's desire or effort, but upon God's mercy. Romans 9:16

Is God Fair?
Ever have a situation where you wonder if God really cares about you or not? I am willing to guess that you have. During one of my own darkest moments, my faith was tested and I wondered what in the world God was doing. After all, I am following Jesus with my life and trying to be the very best I can. Why wouldn't God take care of me? Why wouldn't He be fair?
Let's look at at some youth examples:
- Being diagnosed with a disease--diabetes, MS, etc
- Parents getting a divorce
- Not making the team you have always wanted to play on (and practiced for)
- A BFF moving to another state
- Death of a sibling
- False rumors being spread about you around the entire school
- On and on and on and on
Each one of the listed items is more than likely not a reaction to something that you have done. A worldly perspective would say that any of those would not be fair. Now what?
As I was having my own pity party, I remembered Jesus. God allowed Him to go through some hard times too, ultimately, His death on the cross. Before Jesus went to the cross, He asked for this "cup" to be passed from Him, ultimately praying God's will over His own. When Jesus was hanging on the cross, He cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34) Definitely not seeming so fair here!
What happens a few days later? Jesus is raised from the dead and victory over death is available to all of us! Praise God! Ultimately, obviously, Jesus' death on the cross was used for good, just like our own personal crosses are used for good. Meditate on these scriptures:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Prayer: May you find peace in whatever storm is going on in your life right now. May you know that God is with you, even when you can't see or feel His presence. May your faith exceed your sorrow. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
