What to Expect

What kind of Church is Broadway?

Broadway is a gathering of diverse children of God who follow Jesus Christ. We are part of Christ’s church, dependent upon God’s grace, seeking direction and guidance by the Holy Spirit.

Broadway is a local congregation of The United Methodist Church. Our congregation’s 180 year heritage provides a rich history behind the story being written today. As in all God’s creation, the past and present meet with wide eyes of faith toward the future. All are invited and welcomed at Broadway to experience the journey of God’s grace and love.

Our location in downtown Paducah, Kentucky offers a unique interaction with the local community. Along with worship, study, and fellowship, our programming and outreach actively engage in the mission statement of The United Methodist Church: "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." This is lived out at Broadway as we “Imagine, Embrace, Grow.”

If you have questions about Broadway United Methodist Church or would like to explore opportunities for spiritual growth at Broadway we look forward to meeting with you and invite you to contact the church office by phone or e-mail. Please visit our <contact> page for information.

What about Sunday Morning Worship?

Our Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. and generally concludes by 11:45 a.m. We blend creative and fresh approaches to a traditional worship style that provides time and space to connect with God in the presence of the Holy Spirit. The rhythm of prayers, scripture, congregational singing of hymns, choral anthems and music, and sermons are paced within the open and inviting sanctuary space. There is a variety of dress from casual to “Sunday best.” Children are welcome and included in services; however, we do offer free and secure nursery staff and facilities.

What about Communion and Baptism?

The United Methodist Church observes two sacraments: Holy Communion (celebrated at Broadway on the first Sunday of each month) and the Sacrament of Baptism.

All are invited and welcome to receive Holy Communion at Broadway.

Baptism is the recognition of God’s free gift of grace marking us as children of God. Because baptism is a promise from God, if you have been baptized into the Christian faith previously in any denomination, that baptism is celebrated and recognized at Broadway.

We hope to answer any questions that you may have about these sacraments and other patterns of the worship experience.

What about Spiritual Growth and Outreach at Broadway?

Broadway offers many outlets for spiritual growth for all ages and interests. Sunday school classes meet at 9:30 a.m. before worship. In addition, several groups and classes meet throughout the week. For a list of classes, programs, and current groups, opportunities, please visit the ministries page or feel free to contact us.

We believe that spiritual growth is also found in service to Christ through outreach and mission opportunities. From serving as part of a team during a weekly Sunday afternoon community kitchen to serving as a teacher or mentor we are all called to share our unique gifts as Christ’s disciples. We look forward to helping everyone discover and connect to an active and living faith.

How do I join Broadway?

If you feel led to become a member of Broadway, we warmly welcome you to our congregation. As members and disciples, we are expected to support the church with prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. During worship services there is an invitation to faith when it is appropriate to come forward and be welcomed.

If you have been baptized within any Christian denomination and are a member of another church, you may join by transferring your membership.

If you have been baptized at any time in your life and have been away from a church home, we celebrate with you in a reaffirmation of faith when becoming a member.

If you have not been baptized into the Christian faith, we will joyfully accept you into membership through profession of faith when you will be baptized during a Sunday worship service.

Please contact the pastor or church office at (270)-443-2401 when you are ready to become a member or if you have any questions about membership.
