HELP!!!! I’M A PARENT OF AN ALIEN FROM OUTER SPACE…AKA A TEENAGER!
Who is this person you are living with? What happened to your sweet little boy or Daddy’s little girl? How can one person send so many text messages in one day? When did noise become music and your music become old? What can you be doing to make life with Junior or Princess a better experience for everyone…or so that at least everyone in your family may remain sane?
My personal in-home experience covers up through a first grader, but I can tell you what God’s word says that I cling to and will continue to quote when my Princess gets a wee bit older:
Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
How should you train a child?
Check out Deutoronomy 6: 5-9: 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
In the New Testament, Jesus also tells us in Matthew 22: 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Put things into perspective and order resumes.
Focus on God first. Put Him first in your life. Keep your eyes upon Jesus.
How do you do that?
By reading God’s Word daily. By praying without ceasing (kind of like talking out loud but to the audience of God). By submitting your life to Him.
Once you line up with God and give your life to Him, there is no end to what God can do through you. He can help you love your neighbor as yourself. He can even train your child in the way he or she should go. He can even help you like the aliens! I mean your children!
